I love that FPC is a Matthew 25 congregation. Matthew 25:40 is my life verse. In fact, it is the scripture that led me to write my dissertation, “Ministry with the Poor.” During my time as executive director of an interfaith non-profit in Charlotte, this scripture led me to start an interfaith youth camp that emphasized understanding poverty. It is this scripture that led me to Greensboro as the head of Habitat for Humanity. And this verse is one of many reasons that I am deeply grateful for FPC’s Hot Dish & Hope ministry where we welcome our houseless siblings for dinner and devotion. (I’m one of the “hot sauce ladies”!) Every time we have a chance to worship together with our unsheltered neighbors, I feel Jesus powerfully present. “If you’ve done it for the least of these, my brothers and sisters, you have done it unto me.” Matthew 25:40
