Our annual campaign theme is 200 Years of Blessings: Imagine What Comes Next. Dan Kerns from the Stewardship Committee shares this story.

Dan Kerns

200 years is a long time.  I have only been a part of this church 36 years and as I count my blessings … there are too many to list.

Some of the special ones for my family are baptism and wedding.  Serving the church and community with so many church-sponsored activities is a blessing.  One of my favorites is praising God with music.

When asked, “What church do you attend?”  It is always with pride when I reply, First Presbyterian Church Greensboro.  I always include “Greensboro” because I live in McLeansville.  I’m frequently asked, “Where is that”?

For me, a very special blessing I want to share was last week.  Our Bicentennial Celebration.  We were reminded of all the years this church has served God and our community.   When and where First Presbyterian Church was started and how we have arrived to where we are today.

The most meaningful part of the service was Sid’s charge to our congregation.   “Hopeful Optimism about the Future”.  He told us about someone’s dog that could walk on water because the dog could not swim.  He reminded us to avoid the negativity we hear every day through media services.  With “Hopeful Optimism”, we can be reminded that God is in charge.  We trust all things work together for those who love God and we allow God to work in and through us.

It’s about being open to God and allowing God to work in and through us.

Commitment Sunday is October 27. Pledge packets will go out this week.
