Matt Logan, Director of Discipleship & Young Adult Ministry, penned this offering for the close of the year.
WE DID WHAT WE SAID WE WOULDN’T: STANZAS FOR THE TIRED THIS HOLIDAY SEASON
You did what you said you wouldn’t
And I did it too.
Of course both of us couldn’t
There was just too much to do.
Almost two years ago we … shut-down
It forced us to … slow-down
We’d learned to like it.
How did we do it before?
We felt like we might drown.
Our lives were filled with so much stuff
We set the trivial aside
We learned the people we love are enough
We thought the busy had died
We opened back-up
The busy resurrected
No more time to snuggle with Pup
The world needs to be dissected.
How much more are we like Paul?
We do what we say we don’t want to do.
Is drowning what we like, after all?
Does it distract us from what is true?
We’ve shrunk what’s important, to make up for lost time.
We know it’s a crime.
We do what we say we won’t.
We create our own distress.
So a simple prayer for 2022:
“Lord, let us all do less.”
Amen.
