PARENT INFO
MILESTONES OF FAITH FORMATION
Our childrens’ faith journey has eight significant moments:
Baptism: Children are named & claimed as God’s own during a worship service. Baptism is one of two sacraments (with communion) in the Presbyterian tradition. During this service, our members commit to help your child grow in their faith. Your family will receive a Shepherd to help along the way.
Preschool: Children receive an Early Reader Bible to begin learning the stories of our faith.
Kindergarten: These beginning readers receive a Storybook Bible and attend a Milestone class, Getting to Know My Bible
First Grade: The Worship Education class teaches the parts of our service and why we worship as we do.
Second Grade: The Communion Education class pairs each child with an ordained elder friend and concludes with a Welcome to the Lord’s Table service where they take communion.
Third Grade: The Catechism class explores what we believe and why.
Fourth Grade: Getting to Know My Bible
Fifth Grade: The Spiritual Practices class explores ways to connect with God such as prayer, meditation, and journaling.
Eighth Grade: The months-long Confirmation journey includes service projects, mentoring, and personal faith exploration as your teen prepares for full membership in the church.
CHILD & YOUTH PROTECTION POLICY
We are committed to providing a church environment that is safe for children and youth. All FPC employees, as well as members and volunteers who work with children and youth, undergo background checks and are required to attend training. (Our policy also applies to outside groups that lease or use our facilities.) Parents are also strongly encouraged to attend training, which lasts an hour and is offered several times a year.
KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON
Each week we send an email with the latest happenings in Children’s Ministry. Contact us to join the list. If you use hotmail, Yahoo!, or bellsouth for email, please call instead (336.478.4722) because our firewall might intercept your message.
