Matt Bussell, Associate Pastor for Outreach

Saturday is Neil’s Meals! Join us as we partner with Out of the Garden Project to pack 2,000 boxes of food with cabbage, onions, potatoes, apples, rice, beans, and macaroni and cheese. These boxes will help provide approximately 40,000 meals to people in Guilford County.

Neil’s Meals happens twice a year and is a wonderful time of fun and fellowship as we work to make a difference in Greensboro. With tables lined up in the Mullin Life Center filled with food, boxes are filled assembly-line style. It is a great way to get kids (ages 8+) involved in service in our community as they are more than capable of bagging rice or putting produce in boxes.

Neil’s Meals is an important part of our hunger ministries. Roughly 90,000 people in Guilford County experience food insecurity, including about 23% of all children in the county. This means that they either go without a meal or significantly reduce the size of a meal as people struggle to afford adequate food. First Presbyterian Church is part of an extensive network of faith communities and non-profits working to provide meals to the hungry. If you or someone you know is experiencing food insecurity, a great resource is the Greater Guilford Food Finder, a website and app which helps people find food resources in the area.

Hunger is a persistent problem in Greensboro, but we can be a part of the solution. We can all come together to provide nutritious food for our hungry neighbors. That is what Neil’s Meals is all about. People of all ages in our congregation coming together to follow the example of Jesus to feed our hungry neighbors. Please join us this Saturday in the Mullin Life Center from 9-11am. Haven’t signed up yet for Neil’s Meals? No problem! You can still register to help here.
