Music is certainly an important part of our worship experience and also in our faith development.
Often there are hymns that I have heard/sung a 100 times, but never really paid attention to the lyrics or the story behind them.
Recently I have been listening to and studying Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, composed by Robert Robinson. I encourage you to read his story.
One particular part of the hymn says, “here I raise my Ebenezer.” The Scriptural citation is from 1 Samuel. Translated as stone of help. A way of remembering God’s help. An understanding that God’s people could not overcome without God.
Is there a time in your life when you can pinpoint God’s help? A place you might raise your Ebenezer? Often it’s in the rearview mirror that we can see all the times that we could not have endured if we’re not for God.
When we take time to process this, to reflect, then we begin to grow in our relationship with God and come to remember we are not alone. God is our very present help. Now and always.
