How often have you read a book and longed to meet the author so you could ask questions that you pondered or hear them speak to how the book came to be?
I enjoy reading all kinds of books and sometimes participating in and leading the FPC Currie Library Book Club monthly offerings. I am also intrigued by the many and varied books that our adult church school classes read and discuss for deeper spiritual growth and understanding. I admit that I’m also a big fan of historical fiction, especially Southern writers, and am always looking for a good recommendation.
This month at FPC we are blessed to have both Larry Palmer, past law professor and vice provost at Cornell University and author of Scholarship Boy: Meditations on Family and Race and Dr. Jonathan Walton, past Harvard University professor and current Dean at Wake Divinity School and author of Lens of Love: Reading the Bible in It’s World For Our World here to talk about their books.
Both authors have extensive and impressive vitae and have worked passionately for racial justice.
Larry Palmer will be here Monday evening and Tuesday afternoon November 8 and 9 both in person and via Zoom. He will share about his book and also his work with his home church Second Presbyterian Church in downtown Richmond on confronting their history with race.
Dr. Walton will be with us on Sunday November 14 during the church school hour in the Solarium. He will have both a presentation and Q and A on his book. This class meets weekly to discuss the book with one another. All are welcome!
